Narrative:

Plans and Designs Effective Learning Environments and Experiences Supported by Technology
This Sample E-Learning Module is the product of a collaborative project that began with the development of a pedagogical philosophy for online learning, continued through the design of the online delivery system, and ended with the development of the specific content seen in the artifact. I was involved throughout the process, but my main roles were to help develop the pedagogy, and work alongside a talented web developer to create a platform that would support the needs of that pedagogy. Once the platform was fully developed, my role shifted towards developing the content seen here–starting with a front-end analysis, progressing through the development of objectives and learning activities, and finally to the creation and implementation of the learning modules. A variety of technologies were utilized to create an easily accessible and engaging delivery of the content.
Applies Technology to Facilitate a Variety of Effective Assessment and Evaluation Strategies
The attached artifact, an evaluation plan for an online learning module, illustrates my ability to facilitate a variety of assessment and evaluation strategies with the help of a number of technologies. This particular learning module is a distance learning offering, which presented unique challenges for evaluation. It was necessary to fold in various levels of online evaluation, to ensure a high response rate. Simple, easy to administer and analyze evaluations were developed to help the course leaders assess and improve their instruction.

The second artifact is an online learning prototype that utilizes a number of interesting assessment strategies. There are multiple forms of online “knowledge checks” as well as hands on self-assessments, that will help the learner become more familiar with the technical process being described in the instruction.

Demonstrates Understanding of Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues Surrounding the Use of Technology and Applies it in Practice
The digital prototype above was developed as part of a partnership with the department of libraries in my state. As such, the instruction needed to be accessible to those with disabilities, and fall well within the range of ethical and legal uses of technology. The learning module is going to be available in the public libraries found throughout the state, and will be accessible to anyone who needs/wants to understand the hardware and software used for videoconferencing in the libraries (human issue). This instruction will, hopefully, open doors for people who may not have had access to this sort of technology before, and will allow them to benefit from connecting with people all over the world (social issue). We took particular care to make sure that everyone would be able to benefit from this use of technology–in the hopes of bridging the gaps between the more urban and tech-savy environments in the state, and the more rural, isolated areas (human issue). This instruction abides by all relevant laws and ethical codes. Sources are cited, plagiarism is avoided, and copyright laws are respected (legal, ethical issues).
